5 Things to Post on Social Media When You’re Feeling Stuck: Author Edition
We’ve all been there: staring at a blank Canva design, wanting to get a post up ASAP but not knowing what to say. Don’t worry, today I’ve got 5 things you can post on social media as an author when you’re feeling stuck.
Introduce Your Characters
Let your followers get to know your characters. Even if you’ve shared this info before, only a small percentage of your audience sees each post, so share it again! You can even repost the same thing you’ve shared before, and new people will see it—just space the same posts out a bit if you do. You can also come up with new ways to introduce your characters, or even introduce side characters. Have fun with it!

Create a Mini Quiz
This is one of my favorites—it reminds me of taking quizzes in Cosmo magazine. Create a few questions and accompanying results in a carousel post and invite your audience to share their result in the comments. For the results, pull things from your books. If you write fantasy and have different courts, houses, or lands, those could be the quiz results. You could also create a “Which Character Are You Most Like?” quiz. This one is super fun and interactive.

Share a Quote
Pair a quote from one of your books with an eye-catching image. Make the quote juicy or share some foreshadowing to really grab attention!
Another way to grab attention when using a quote post is to give some context first. For example, if you write romance and want to share a quote between characters, you could write, “When you accidentally break the hot new neighbor’s window” and then share your quote. Giving a bit of a “hook” before you go into your quote can grab attention as well!

Reveal Your Tropes
On social media, readers love to see quick breakdowns of books. If there’s a trope they love and they see it while scrolling, they’ll often save the post or go right to Goodreads to add the book to their ‘Want to Read’ list. There are so many fun ways to share tropes—don’t be afraid to get creative.

Promote Your Backlist
Chances are you have some new followers since you last shared about your backlist. A lot of the time authors spend so much time on their new and upcoming books (which makes total sense!) that they neglect their backlists a bit. No shame in that game, it’s easy to do. But when you’re stuck on what to post, share about a completed series or trilogy (or just a backlist standalone) to get some new eyes on it.
